The site contains full text documents and case studies on
best practices for maternal and reproductive health. The site
is maintained by Advance Africa, a USAID-funded consortium of

A Book for Midwives:
Care, Pregnancy and Women's Health (Focus on
Low-Income Countries)
This site contains, in pdf format, the revised and updated
information from six chapters of the book: words for
midwives, a woman's body in pregnancy, common changes in
pregnancy, giving good care during labor and birth,
breastfeeding and how to insert IUDs. While this in not the
book in entirety, the information is useful for midwives and
other obgyn personnel in low-resource environments. The
material was produced by the Hesperian Foundation, a
non-profit publisher based in the U.S.

Implementing Best Practices in
Reproductive Health (Focus on Low-Income
Countries)
The goal of the IBP Initiative is to improve access and
quality of reproductive healthcare through a systematic
approach focused on developing and supporting strategies that
introduce, adapt and apply evidence based practices. After
registering (free), individuals enter the IBP Gateway that
includes access to information on evidence-based practices,
papers, guidelines and other publications, email discussion
groups and individual information communities. The project
was initiated by the World Health Organization and USAID, and
is supported by numerous international and local reproductive

for community health workers. It combines self-help medical
information with an understanding of how poverty,
discrimination and culture can limit women's health and
access to care. This 2006 edition in pdf format features new
and updated information on HIV/AIDS, treatment of sexually
transmitted infections, family planning, TB, care for women
who have had abortions, and medicines. Also is available in
