Environmental Health and Toxicology
The Toxicology and Environmental Health Information Program of the U.S. National Library of Medicine has organized a comprehensive directory of toxicology and environmental health databases, bibliographies, tutorials and other scientific and consumer-oriented resources. Topics cover specific chemicals, occupational hazards, poisoning, environmentally-related diseases, and toxicology. http://sis.nlm.nih.gov/enviro.html

International Chemical Safety Cards  (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
The 1565 cards summarize essential health and safety information on chemicals for their use at the "shop floor" level by workers and employers in factories, agriculture, construction and other work places. Although not legally binding documents, the cards consist of a series of standard phrases, mainly summarizing health and safety information collected, verified and peer reviewed by internationally recognized experts. Via this site, the cards are available in sixteen languages. http://www.ilo.org/public/english/protection/safework/cis/products/icsc/

International Program on Chemical Safety  (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
A joint effort among World Health Organization, International Labor Organization, and United Nations Environment Programme, the goal of this program is to determine the scientific basis for the safe use of chemicals and to strengthen capacities for chemical safety within countries. The site includes fulltext documents on chemical assessment, methods for chemical assessment, chemicals in food, poison information and prevention and management, chemical incidents and emergencies. The site contains INTOX, a database of consolidated, authoritative information on toxic agents and the management of toxic exposures and the International Programme on Chemical Safety Database (INCHEM), an online searchable database of full-text, internationally peer-reviewed documents related to chemical risks and the proper management of common chemicals. http://www.who.int/ipcs/en/

International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX)  (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
IUTOX fosters international scientific cooperation among toxicologists, promotes global acquisition, dissemination, and utilization of knowledge in toxicology and ensures continued training and development of toxicologists worldwide. This site contains information about the organization's mission and its conferences, programs and publications. The organization sponsors the Developing Countries Committee and holds the Congress on Toxicology in Developing Countries every three years. http://www.iutox.org

Management of Poisoning: A handbook for health care workers  (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
This handbook is particularly valuable for isolated health workers. It contains chapters on poisons and poisoning, how poisoning happens, how to prevent poisoning, what to do in an emergency, first aid, getting medical help, examining symptoms and signs, finding out what happened, how to look after a poisoned patient outside of a hospital, medicines and equipment and information on pesticides, chemicals and chemical products and medicines. It is produced by the International Programme on Chemical Safety. http://www.who.int/ipcs/publications/training_poisons/management_of_poisoning/en/index.html

Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy: Poisoning
This chapter of the Merck Manual provides useful clinical information on poisoning and bites and stings plus links to related topics in the Manual. The site includes a keyword search engine. http://www.merck.com/mmpe/sec21.html

PubMed - Free Fulltext Articles on Poisoning (12000+)
This PubMed search will identify all poisoning free fulltext ejournal articles within the database. Within the search results, there are links to the fulltext material. By repeating this search periodically, you will find new fulltext articles that are added to the PubMed database weekly. Science of Chemical Safety/Essential Toxicology  (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
A joint project of International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry Commission on Toxicology and the Committee on the Teaching of Chemistry, this site is based on the undergraduate level textbook, Fundamental Toxicology for Chemists. The presentations are intended to provide educators with a resource of materials for teaching and learning the fundamentals of toxicology. The current web version is a series of pdf files that can be used for computer presentations and as print handouts, slides or overheads. http://www.iupac.org/publications/cd/essential_toxicology/

Toxicology Tutorials
Developed by the Environmental Health and Toxicology Information Service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, this site consists of a series of tutorials covering basic principles, toxicokinetics and cellular toxicology. The tutorials are condensed into zip files that can be downloaded from the website. http://sis.nlm.nih.gov/enviro/toxtutor.html

TOXNET
Toxnet is a compilation of databases by the U.S. National Library of Medicine that provide toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental health, and toxic release information. The freely available portal contains fourteen databases, including Toxline (database of toxicology literature), Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology, Hazardous Substance Databank, Chemical Carcinogenesis Research Information System and the International Toxicology Estimates for Risk Database. A Brazilian mirror site is available. http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/
