CHE Toxicant and
Disease Database
The Collaborative on Health
and the Environment has compiled a unique database that
specifically links chemical contaminants with approximately
180 human diseases or conditions. The database can be
searched based on the specific disease, organ system, and or
chemical name. Results are displayed based on their strength
of evidence (strong, good, or limited). The database is most
useful for identifying what exposures may contribute to
disease. http://database.healthandenvironment.org/
Environmental Health: A
Global Access Science Source
Environmental
Health is a peer-reviewed, online, and open-access journal
dedicated to serving researchers and health professionals
involved in environmental and occupational medicine. http://www.ehjournal.net/
Environmental Health
and Toxicology
The Toxicology and
Environmental Health Information Program of the U.S. National
Library of Medicine has organized a comprehensive directory
of toxicology and environmental health databases,
bibliographies, tutorials and other scientific and
consumer-oriented resources. Topics cover specific chemicals,
occupational hazards, poisoning, environmentally-related
diseases, and toxicology. http://sis.nlm.nih.gov/enviro.html
Environmental Health
Action (EHA)
Sponsored by the Physicians for
Social Responsibility, EHA is an online community designed to
educate health professionals and others interested in
environmental health issues. Although targeted mainly towards
a U.S. audience, it has some international content and useful
research updates on air pollution, urban living, children's
health, vulnerable populations, etc. http://www.psr.org/site/PageServer?pagename=Enviro_Home
Environmental Health
Perspectives (EHP) (Focus on Low-Income
Countries)
Published by the National Institute of Environmental Health
Sciences, EHP is an open-access journal of peer-reviewed
research and news on the impact of the environment on human
health. The journal occasionally publishes special issues on
children's health, environmental medicine, and
toxicogenomics. A pilot project EHP Science Education offers
lesson plans and resources for science classes based on EHP
articles. Select EHP articles are available in French,
Spanish, Korean, Japanese, and Russian, plus a special
Chinese edition is available. The journal also distributes
its monthly print publication for free to developing
countries. http://www.ehponline.org/
Global Environmental
Facility (Focus on Low-Income
Countries) (French, Spanish)
The Global Environmental Facility aids developing countries
in developing and funding programs related to climate change,
land degradation, the ozone layer, and persistent organic
pollutants. Search the Project Database to see what projects
are being funded worldwide. http://www.gefweb.org/
Healthy Environments
for Children's Alliance
(Focus on Low-Income Countries) (Chinese, Russian,
Spanish)
A WHO initiative, the Healthy Environments for Children's
Alliance aims to raise awareness and influence decision
makers on effective measures for promoting healthy living
areas for children. The site offers a wealth of background
documents, advocacy materials, approaches to alliance
building, and descriptions of community alliance projects.
The Framework publication also is available in Russian,
Chinese and Spanish. The HECANET mailing list provides
updates on HECA activities, meeting announcements, and
advocacy tools and reports. http://www.who.int/heca/en/
International
Federation of Environmental Health (IFEH)
(Focus on Low-Income Countries)
The International Federation of Environmental Health members
encompass the national associations who represent the
interests of environmental health professionals. The site is
a resource for scientific reports, IFEH publications and
policy papers, and links to member websites. In addition,
IFEH offers a discussion panel, listserv, and job exchange.
They also sponsor the World Congress on Environmental Health
conference. http://www.ifeh.org/
PAHO Environmental
Health Topics (Focus on Low-Income
Countries) (French, Spanish)
The Pan American Health Organization has compiled an
environmental health topics list addressing air pollution,
chemical safety, disaster assistance, drinking water, healthy
housing, and water quality. Each topic provides links to
announcements, books, manuals, multimedia, technical
documents, and publications. Some of these resources are
available in French and/or Spanish.

That site highlights priority risk areas, outlines current
pilot projects, and provides tools for conducting economic
and impact assessments. The WHO's World Health Report
provides a comprehensive look at the state of global health.
The Report often contains sections on the contribution of
environmental factors to the global health burden. The Global
