1 A 'gateway' is a website that provides a linked
list of webpages on a particular subject. The purpose is to
make it easier for anybody to find useful information on that
subject. Before being added to the list, each website is
evaluated by one or more professionals. If websites are
considered to be reliable and relevant, they are included on
the list. To help the users select the best information, each
recommended webpage contains an annotated description of the
site. Gateways generally place quality over quantity, but may
have a large number of recommended sites, in which case the
sites are commonly organised into sections and subsections.
For example, Essential
Health Links has over 600 sites, organized into 3
sections, which are further divided into about 50
sub-sections.
2 The E-Journals and E-Newsletters listed in
this section are only a few examples of many that are
available on this topic - others can be found via the links
listed at Fulltext E-Journals.
